FAQ's
If you are thinking of booking a session but have some questions, this is the page for you!
How do I schedule?
Check my Pricing/Availability page to check dates that I might be available. Generally unless it says "unavailable," I should be able to work something out. Send an e-mail, use my website contact form, or send me a Facebook message and I will pencil you in!
What forms of payment do you take?
I take cash, checks or all major credit cards accepted through the Square reader. Payment is due at the conclusion of the session.
What's your favorite location/time of day to shoot?
I went to VCU, so I love to shoot anywhere downtown. I've done sessions at Belle Isle, Browns Island, the Carillon, and all around the Canal Walk. However there are lots of great places close to (my) home too. I love Hanover Wayside Park, Pole Green Park and any other location that may mean something to you. If you have a special spot you would like to try, I'm up for it - as long as there are no photography restrictions. I charge travel expenses depending on the distance of the shoot for locations more than 30 minutes away from Hanover.
My favorite time of day to shoot is in the morning (AFTER coffee) and late afternoon!
What happens after I book?
We will work together to choose a location for your photo session. We will also discuss your goals for the session in advance – whether you want serious or fun shots, or what your “must have” shot for the session is. Feel free to send me ideas you see on Pinterest. A few days before your session I will follow-up and we can discuss final details.
What should we wear?
Wear something that makes you feel comfortable. I suggest trying to coordinate within your group – but this doesn’t mean you have to match. It means coordinating a general color palette within the group. Also coordinate the style – casual or formal? Keep it consistent. For fall sessions, try browns, stripes, boots, and anything that feels warm and cozy. Sick of brown? Try a deep green! Deep colors photograph well. Light colors such as whites and pastels don’t tend to be the most flattering.
Small patterns and stripes photograph well – but do try to avoid large prints, logos, or other distracting clothing. Check out more ideas on my Pinterest page. Keep in mind if you have booked a mini-session there is no time for a wardrobe change. If you want to change clothes during your session, I recommend booking a full session.

What do I need to bring?
The only thing you NEED to bring is whoever you would like to include in the pictures. If you have any props you would like to use, feel free. It’s your time!
What if the forecast looks terrible?
Virginia weather in the fall or spring can mean cold mornings and warm afternoons. We could get a sprinkle or a downpour. I will be able to shoot in a sprinkle (not a downpour!) but will reschedule for snow (I NEED to build a snowman). If you have scheduled a fall shoot, 40 degrees and above can be expected as are hot temperatures during the summer. I suggest dressing for the weather - if you HAVE to take a shot in a certain outfit, be prepared to take jackets on and off quickly! It can be done!
If you’re concerned about the weather conditions, please contact me and we can discuss options.
What if I have to reschedule?
I understand that things happen. However with two kids of my own I am often juggling activities myself in order to schedule sessions. If you cancel less than 24 hours in advance of your session - I will require a $15 additional fee in order to reschedule.
What happens at the session?
If you have little ones, I suggest trying to give them time before your scheduled time to run around and get comfortable with the environment before we shoot. It’s also a good idea to give them a (not so sugary) snack before your session. The first few minutes of the shoot is time to get acquainted. As we move through the location feel free to suggest poses and spots you wish to take a photo. I’ll direct you through a few poses to achieve the goals we have discussed prior to the session, as well as others that I think will make you look your best!
At the conclusion of the session please provide payment - cash, check or credit card - I will not begin editing the pictures until payment is received.
What happens after the session?
I strive to send clients a few sneak peeks within 24 hours of a session. Within a week of the shoot I will send you a link and password to your client gallery. The photos will be watermarked. Depending on the package you have purchased you will be able to choose your allotted number of downloads. You may also download additional photos from the session for an additional fee.
Where should I order prints?
You can download your photos and order prints through your favorite site, OR let me order them for you! Print pricing is available on my Pricing page, and bulk pricing can be arranged.
